    • Obituary - Bolton Landing - Peter Cornelius Van Dyck, of Clay Island, Bolton Landing, N.Y., and formerly of Schenectady, N.Y. and Scotia, N.Y. died Aug. 14, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital.
      Born in Schenectady on June 19, 1917, he was the third of eight children born to Louis Bevier Van Dyck III and Marguerite Towle Van Dyck.
      He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and attended Storm King School. He attended both Union College and Amherst College and graduated from Amherst as a member of the Class of 1938.
      After serving in the U.S. Army for four years during World War II, Peter joined the General Electric traveling auditing staff and began a 30 plus year career with the company. In 1972 he was promoted to Vice President of G.E. and was in charge of the Apparatus Service Division, a division with locations around the world. He traveled extensively to these locations and visited all continents except Antarctica. He retired from General Electric in 1980.
      In his retirement, Peter enjoyed his time at fishing and relaxing at Lake George. He also volunteered with many civic organizations. He served as a board member and then president of the Lake George Association and helped form The Fund for Lake George.
      He served on the board of trustees of Union College for many years and was an enthusiastic fundraiser for the college and a supporter of the athletics program.
      He was a member of the Lake George Club, The Mohawk Golf club, The Mohawk Club and The Men's Garden Club of Bolton Landing.
      He is predeceased by three siblings: Louis Bevier II, Kathryn Turney and Anne McLaughry, and by his daughter, Gretchen Van Dyck.
      He is survived by his wife, Caroline Krueger Van Dyck of Bolton Landing, originally of Schenectady, his daughters, Cornelia Wells and husband, John of Bolton Landing, Katrina Van Dyck and husband, Henry Caldwell of Bolton Landing, Margaret Holmes-Van Dyck and husband, Tim Holmes, of Saranac Lake, N.Y. and his son, Peter Cornelius Van Dyck Jr. and his wife, Ann Foster, of Harwich, Mass. His eight grandchildren are: Matthew Wells of Bolton Landing, Sydnie Wells of Boston, Harry and Charlotte Caldwell of Bolton Landing, Lillian and Oliver Holmes of Saranac Lake, N.Y., and C. Maxwell and Jackson Van Dyck of Harwich, Mass.
      He is survived by four of his siblings: Philip Van Dyck and his wife, Ruth, of Schenectady, N.Y., Margaret Fisher of Pattersonville, N.Y., David Van Dyck and his wife, Margaret, of West Hartford, Conn. and Richard Van Dyck and his wife, Nancy, of Niskayuna, N.Y. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
      Peter was an understated man, who also cared to share his advice, opinions, and support to his family and friends. His greatest loves were his family, Lake George, fishing and education.
      Family and friends are invited and may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Regan and Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury.
      A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, at the Blessed Sacrament Church, Goodman Avenue, Bolton Landing.
      Burial will be private in Bolton Rural Cemetery.
      In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Peter are asked to make a donation in his name to The Fund for Lake George, The Lake George Association, or the Lake George Land Conservancy.
